Class A2

DRIVING LICENSE CLASS - A2

You can start training for driving license class A2 at 17 1/2 years. The theoretical exam can be taken 3 months before the 18th birthday and the practical exam 1 month before.
No previous class is required to acquire this license category!
Legislators do not prescribe a minimum number of hours for practice, but safe operation and control of the vehicle should be achieved. So the number of practice hours depends on your individual skills.

Theoretical lessons:

If you already have a driving license class, the basic material is reduced to 6 lessons of 90 minutes each.

The legislator prescribes the following special trips:

  • 5 hours of 45 minutes each on federal or rural roads
  • 4 hours of 45 minutes each on the motorway
  • 3 hours of 45 minutes each at dusk or in the dark
If you are in the A1 class:
       less than 2 years:

Der Gesetzgeber schreibt folgende Sonderfahrten vor:

  • 3 hours of 45 minutes each on federal or rural roads
  • 2 hours of 45 minutes each on the motorway
  • 1 hours of 45 minutes each at dusk or in the dark
    more than 2 years:
    no theory lessons and special trips are necessary. Depending on your driving skills, practice hours must be completed and a test drive of 40 minutes duration must be completed.

    You need the following documents to apply:

    • valid personal document
    • biometric photo (according to valid passport regulation)
    • an eye test or ophthalmological report
    • Proof of first aid training
    • Declaration of consent by legal guardians for applicants under 18 years of age
    • Card index copy of the authority that issued the paper driver's license if you do not have a card driver's license
    • Name and address of the driving school (You will receive the application forms from the driving school.)
    • Processing costs up to EUR 50.40 (depending on the effort)

    The driving license is given on a trial basis.
    The trial period is 2 years.

    The validity of the driver's license (comparable to the ID card) is 15 years, the validity of the driver's license is unlimited.

    If the training for class A2 has been successfully completed, you may:

    "Medium-weight" motorcycles (two-wheelers, also with sidecars) with a design-related top speed of more than 45 km/h and a displacement of more than 50 cm³. The power may not exceed 35 kW and the ratio of power to unladen mass may not exceed 0.2 kW/kg.
    This driving license class includes the classes AM and A1.

    Class A1 vehicles:

    Motorcycles with a maximum displacement of 125 cm³, a nominal output of no more than 11 kW and the power output to empty mass may not exceed 0.1 kW/kg output.

    Three-wheel motor vehicles with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³ and a design-related top speed of more than 45 km/h with a maximum output of 15 kW.

    Class AM vehicles:

    Two-wheel mopeds with a spark ignition engine with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³, a design-related maximum speed of maximum 45 km/h or an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated output of 4 kW.

    Three-wheel mopeds
    with a spark ignition engine with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³ and a maximum construction speed of 45 km/h or an electric motor with a maximum rated output of 4 kW.

    Four-wheel light vehicles
    with a spark ignition engine with a maximum displacement of 50 cm³, a design-related maximum speed of maximum 45 km/h or an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated output of 4 kW and an empty weight of maximum 350 kg.

    Class AM also entitles you to:

    Small motorcycles with a maximum design speed of 50 km/h, provided they first entered traffic before January 1, 2002.

    Small motorcycles according to former GDR law with a displacement of 50 cm³ and a maximum design speed of 60 km/h if they were put into operation for the first time before January 1st, 1991. Proof of insurance is required from the GDR.
